What is the network? It is a newly designed process and cooperative effort between ground emergency medical services, air ambulance, local Emergency Rooms and the West Tennessee Heart and Vascular Center to provide comprehensive, efficient speedy care for a patient experiencing a heart attack.
Time is muscle. The faster a heart attack is identified, the quicker the heart artery can be opened and the best chance of minimal damage and survival. To help each patient throughout West Tennessee, EMS, emergency rooms, physicians, and specialized heart care providers are committed to working together to provide the best practices to open the artery the fastest--all provided close to home at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Do not delay. If you have chest pains or believe you are having a heart attack, call 911 immediately. It is important that you seek medical attention immediately.
If you have medical questions, always consult your physician or healthcare provider.
Heart Cath: This procedure is done in a cateterization lab and involves a special cardiologist, called an interventional cardiologist, and a team of qualified staff inserting a small catheter into a vein or artery to open up the blockage that is causing the blood flow problem.
Surgery: Sometimes the only way a heart attack can be repaired is through open heart surgery. General Hospital is the only hospital between Memphis and Nashville that can provide this extra care when needed.
